More summer classes

We’ve got some very season-appropriate classes starting this summer: Summer Skills, Outdoor Obedience and Leash Manners.

The next session of Summer Skills meets at 7:00 pm at Saint Paul at Macalester College starting June 13. We’ll practice:

  • Loose-leash walking in the real world,
  • Settling on a mat, bandana or leash so we can outdoor cafes with our dogs (we may need a field trip!)
  • Greeting folks we meet on walks
  • Walking by other dogs
  • Leave it

Dogs should have completed a basic manners or obedience class before attending Summer Skills.

Each class covers a different topic and  provides great socialization experiences for your puppy. For puppies ages 8 to 14 weeks.  Puppies can start class one week after their first puppy shot.

Control and Focus is for:

  • Dogs that are uncomfortable or unable to work off lead around other dogs
  • Dogs that are easily distracting and have difficulty concentrating
  • Dogs that are somewhat reactive or easily aroused
  • Dogs that are anxious, stressed or shut down
  • Dogs that are unable to control their impulses when aroused

Not for dogs with leash or human aggression issues.  (Note: We are not affiliated with Leslie McDevitt’s Control Unleashed program.)

K9 Nose Work

Enjoy the fun of a search without any of the explosives, illegal substances or body parts! K9 Nose Work is a new sport for folks who want to engage their dogs’ strongest sense — the nose. With K9 Nose Work dogs learn to search indoors and outdoors for a small container that holds a miniscule amount of a harmless essential oil. Dogs work one at a time so that reactive and shy dogs can participate. The class follows the guidelines developed by the National Association of Canine Scent Work. No prior obedience required.
